New to Psychology

THE FIRST STEP: Never fear - you belong here. It’s really important to find a psychologist that you connect well with. The more comfortable you feel with your psychologist, the more you can get out of this relationship over time. It’s okay to call around and chat with multiple psychologists before organising a referral through your General Practitioner (GP).

At Bird Psychology, we like to nurture this relationship early. With every inquiry, a psychologist will be in touch for a complimentary 15-20 minute consultation to discuss your needs and ensure we are a good fit. If you want to continue, then chat with your GP to organise a referral with me, providing them with these details.

THE SECOND STEP: We can show you how therapy really works. Psychological therapy varies from clinician to clinician. Bird Psychology provides a structured therapeutic approach to meet your specific goals. This involves close collaboration with you and feedback informed treatment. Of course, as life happens, these needs may change, so let’s make sure to shift our focus as necessary.

THE FOURTH STEP: One step at a time. The whole purpose of psychological therapy is getting you to a place of independence in managing your mental health and wellbeing. Life will invariably deliver challenging periods and it is how we use the tools we have to overcome and learn from these experiences. In your time, you can become empowered to do differently from before.
